From Fort McHenry to McHenry County
During the War of 1812, British forces attacked Fort McHenry in September 1814 after burning Washington, D.C. The fort, defended by American troops under George Armistead, withstood a 25-hour bombardment by the British fleet. Watching from a nearby ship, Francis Scott Key anxiously waited to see whether the American flag still flew over the fort at dawn. When he saw the flag still waving, he was inspired to write “Defence of Fort M’Henry,” which later became The Star-Spangled Banner.

The county is the last traditionally conservative “collar county” around Chicago, facing political and demographic changes that have narrowed Republican margins. We MUST get out and vote in November. If you sit this one out, the way of life that you've enjoyed in McHenry County might become a distant memory.
